AI photo culling: how wedding photographers save 3–4 hours per event

A single Indian wedding produces 2,000–6,000 photos across Haldi, Mehandi, Sangeet, Barat and Reception. Before a single photo is edited, someone has to open every frame and decide: keep or reject. Done by eye, that is 3–4 hours of squinting at near-identical burst shots — per event, every week of the season.

What AI culling actually checks
- Blur / sharpness — a mathematical focus score per photo (variance of edge detail). Soft shots from motion or missed focus rank at the bottom, so you review the worst first instead of hunting for them.
- Duplicates — burst sequences and re-takes are clustered by visual similarity, with the sharpest frame of each set marked. One tap keeps the best and rejects the rest.
- Group shots — face counting finds every photo with 5+ or 8+ faces instantly, which makes family-line-up selection (or removal) a filter instead of a scroll.

What it gets wrong (and why you still review)
Honest expectations matter. Blur scoring is objective and very reliable. Duplicate detection is excellent on burst shots but can group deliberate variations (same pose, different expressions) — which is why good tools show the cluster and let you pick, rather than deleting anything automatically.
Face recognition on Indian weddings runs around 90–95% accuracy: heavy makeup, dupatta occlusion and dark dance floors confuse every engine on the market. Treat AI culling as a very fast assistant that pre-sorts, never as an auto-delete. The workflow that works: analyse → review flagged shots → hide from client → deliver.

Frequently asked questions
Will AI culling delete my photos automatically?
No — and it never should. Good culling tools (Azentra included) only flag and pre-sort; rejecting a photo hides it from the client gallery and stays reversible until you explicitly delete. You always make the final call.
Do my photos get uploaded to an AI server?

How long does analysing a full wedding take?
